I started this blog, in spite of having avoided such a thing for years now, to document this project I’m trying out: my thirty-before-thirty. I got the idea from the beautiful and creative and all-together lovely Joy the Baker. See her list here, and what it turned into here. She started hers much later than I started mine, so I’ve got some more ambitious items on my list, but the idea is the same: pick thirty different types of things you’d like to accomplish before you turn thirty. Hopefully I’ll use this blog to document my progress and any interesting experiences I have along the way. As of right now, I have 1 year, 9 months, and 23 days to finish. Without further ado, the list:
Climb 1 14,000 ft. mountain
Go on 2 road trips
Try 3 new adventurous things*
Spend 4 nights backpacking
Visit 5 new countries
Host 6 dinners at home for people other than my family
Try 7 new hobbies or crafts**
Go 8 weeks without buying anything unnecessary
Complete 9 sewing projects
Hike 10 miles in a dayhike
Finish 11 unfinished projects***
Make 12 Christmas caroling songbooks

Create 15 new kinds of candy
Make 16 cups of homemade soda
Plant 17 different types of plant
Decorate 18 cards with calligraphy
Send 19 hand-written letters/cards/postcards to friends for no reason
Give 20 homemade gifts
Randomly call non-immediate family members 21 times
Do a hike with 2200 feet of elevation gain
See 23 classic movies I’ve never seen before
Read 24 new books
Leave 25 cheerful notes or quotes in public places

There you go. That’s it, the list. Some of those items need some more explanation, and I plan on getting to that (and those asterisks) in the next few days. A few of these will not be difficult to accomplish, but all are important to me for one reason or another, so it will be interesting to see how I do. My mantra lately has been ganbaru – I’ll do my best – and so I will.
I love it Jill! What a fabulous idea… and some very ambitious goals. It’s going to be fun watching!
Fun! I really like your list. I might “steal” parts of it. 🙂
